Toumaz Technology Selects Berkeley Design

Analog FastSPICE™ for Intelligent Wireless Sensor Transceiver SoCs
European Ultra-Low
Power Startup Gets True SPICE Accuracy 5X-10X Faster on Complex
Analog/RF Blocks
Santa Clara, CA, — November 6,
2007— Berkeley Design Automation Inc., provider of Precision Circuit
Analysis™ technology for advanced analog and RF integrated circuits
(ICs), today announced that Toumaz Technology Limited, a developer of
advanced analog, RF, and mixed-signal semiconductors for healthcare and
biomedical applications, has selected the company’s Analog FastSPICE™
circuit simulator for complex-block and full-circuit verification of
its Sensium™ intelligent sensor interface and transceiver platform.
“Accurate and thorough design verification of our complex analog/RF
blocks is a fundamental priority in the healthcare market where Toumaz
operates,” said Keith Errey, co-founder and chief operating officer of
Toumaz Technology. “In just 4 days Analog FastSPICE delivered true
SPICE accurate results that would have taken our traditional SPICE
simulator 26 days to complete. As a result, we were able to verify a
fix to a subtle but critical sigma-delta ADC problem that we may have
missed with our normal analog simulator.”
“We design complex transmit and receive chains that require
comprehensive verification and push the limits of our simulators,” said
Alan Wong, wireless IC design leader for Toumaz Technology. “Analog
FastSPICE successfully verified our full RF transmit chain, and our RF
receive chain – which converts down to baseband. None of these
full-circuit transmit/receive chain simulations are practical with our
current analog simulator. On average we are seeing about a 7X speedup
with Analog FastSPICE with no loss of accuracy.”
Berkeley Design Automation tools include Analog FastSPICE™ circuit
simulation, RF FastSPICE™ periodic analyzer, and PLL Noise Analyzer™.
The company guarantees identical waveforms to the leading “golden”
SPICE simulators down to noise floor (typically ~0.1%) while delivering
5x-10x higher performance and 5x-10x higher capacity. It achieves this
by using advanced algorithms and numerical analysis techniques to
rapidly solve the full-circuit matrix and the original device equations
without any shortcuts that could compromise accuracy.
Design teams from top-10 semiconductor companies to leading startups
use Berkeley Design Automation tools to solve big analog/RF
verification problems. Typical applications include characterizing
complex blocks (e.g., PLLs, ADCs, DC:DC converters, PHYs, Tx/Rx chains)
and running performance simulation of full circuits (e.g., wireless
transceivers, wireline transceivers, high-speed I/O macros, memories,
microcontrollers, data converters, and power converters).
“We are very excited to be associated with Toumaz, a pioneering company
developing ultra-low power silicon systems for the fast-growing market
of healthcare and body monitoring devices,” said Ravi Subramanian,
president and CEO of Berkeley Design Automation. “Effective pre-tapeout
verification of complex analog/RF blocks in their innovative Sensium
sensor transceiver platform is a key enabler of high-quality products
reaching the market on time and within specifications. We are proud to
help Toumaz accelerate and improve the effectiveness of their design
verification flow.”
