Newport Media
Adopts Berkeley Design Automation Analog FastSPICE™ for Mobile TV ICs
Full SPICE Accuracy and 5X-10X Performance
Improvement Solve Startup’s Most Difficult Verification Problems
SANTA CLARA, CA, —May 31, 2007— Berkeley Design Automation, Inc.,
provider of Precision Circuit Analysis™ technology for advanced analog
and RF integrated circuits, today announced that Newport Media, an
innovative fabless semiconductor company supplying products to the
mobile broadcast media market, has adopted the company’s Analog
FastSPICE™ circuit simulator. Analog FastSPICE enables Newport Media’s
designers to verify their multi-standard mobile TV designs in a
fraction of the time required by traditional SPICE tools.
“Our single chip, multi-band, multi-standard ICs for mobile digital TV
applications have extreme verification needs,” said Frank Carr, vice
president, RF engineering for Newport Media. “We’ve tried a number of
simulators, and Analog FastSPICE is the only circuit simulator that can
run our full-circuit and complex blocks simulations with full SPICE
accuracy. It also cuts long runtimes on our critical blocks by more
than 5X – again with full SPICE accuracy.”
Analog FastSPICE uses Berkeley Design Automation’s proprietary
Precision Circuit Analysis™ technology to deliver full SPICE accuracy,
5X to 10X faster, and with vastly superior DC convergence compared to
traditional SPICE tools. By solving the original device equations
without any approximations, abstractions, or short cuts, Analog
FastSPICE delivers waveforms identical to traditional SPICE simulators
at every node on every run. The product is proven on a wide range of
circuits including high-speed I/Os, power regulators, LCD-TV source
drivers, memory interfaces, and PLLs (phase-locked loops) and DLLs
(delay-locked loops).
“We are extremely pleased that Newport Media has chosen Analog
FastSPICE for the verification of their highly integrated RF tuner and
demodulator solutions,” said Ravi Subramanian, president and CEO of
Berkeley Design Automation. “Achieving the superior performance and
power-consumption goals for multi-standard mobile digital TV
applications is a tremendous challenge. Newport Media’s selection of
Analog FastSPICE is strong validation of our technology and the
competitive advantage it provides to teams developing complex
semiconductor solutions for the consumer electronics market.”
